Cathy Aubrey's Yorkshire Halloween Wine and Cheese Night
Read on to find out how Cathy Aubrey and friends hosted a Halloween themed wine and cheese night at their local community centre.
Cathy Aubrey made the most of the season in October before her Cycle India challenge, and organised a Halloween themed wine and cheese night to raise money for her event. With help from her friend Pam Shater, a really successful evening was had.
Organising Your Event
‘We were really lucky and hired the local Yorkshire community centre free of charge, which saved us a lot of money’ said Pam. While organising the event was certainly hard work, it was an incredible success, and is a great example of how working with local organisations can really help you with your fundraising. Local Blackerhall Farm was very generous and donated enough cheese to feed one hundred people, saving them enormous amounts of money. ‘I can’t imagine how many kilos and kilos they donated to us, it made a huge difference’, said Pam. As well as this, by approaching different local pubs and asking for just a few bottles of wine to be donated, Cathy and Pam also managed to get all the wine they needed free of charge too. Sometimes instead of donating money, it can be more useful for people, organisations or companies to donate their time or products to your cause or event. People are often happy to do this, as not only are they helping a good cause, but it can be a source of great publicity for them too. So don't be afraid to ask local companies or organisations about this, it can really help you save a lot of money when organising your own event.
Fundraising For Your Event
The pair charged a £5 entrance fee which helped raise lots of money. As long as it isn't too expensive, people are usually happy to pay to attend an event, so remember to factor this into your fundraising plans. Cathy and Pam also sold raffle tickets on the night, which proved a great money earner. Again, Pam contacted local organisations for donations and had an overwhelmingly positive response. She literally went through the phone book and called various organisations asking for donations. They received 42 prizes making the raffle a huge success. The variety of the prizes on offer was a huge drawcard for the event. Horse riding, go-carting, theatre tickets, gift vouchers and cinema tickets were just some of the prizes on offer. So don't be shy about making lots of phone calls, they can really add some value to your raffle!
All in all the event was a great success and they have had lots of people thanking them for a really fun night out for a great cause. So get inspired and start organising your own fundraising event right now!
