Rent-a-band
Organising a fundraising event is a really effective way of raising a lot of money, in just one night. Dave Buckley, a Challenge Event participant, is a member of cover band 'Rough Diamonds' and they have offered their services to you, free of charge!
On Monday 29 November, NDCS held a fundraising night at Islington's Carling Academy and Dave and the Rough Diamonds played to an enthusiastic crowd. Their music, a mix of popular beats and covers, which Dave describes as, "Good-time, country-rock with a strong retro flavour", certainly had the crowd dancing and everyone enjoyed the night.
Dave, who has completed seven Challenge Events and raised over £12,000 for NDCS, understand the difficulties in reaching sponsorship targets. Dave says, "For this reason we have set up the band as a free facility for NDCS fundraisers. If participants are having big parties, balls, or dances they can hire us for FREE instead of forking out for a band, disco or DJ and maximise their profit on the night".
Rough Diamonds are based in London but are willing to travel anywhere within a 100-mile radius and ask that their expenses and the cost of a PA system be paid, although this can often be sponsored. The band also perform as Rough Diamonds Lite - a gentler, 4-piece acoustic version of the band for the calmer occasions.
