What is an open challenge
Open challenges are organised directly by our tour operator and there will be other people raising money for difference charities on the event, although we aim to recruit as many people as possible from NDCS. The tour operator will be looking after the administration of the event and NDCS will be supporting you with your fundraising. Your sponsorship money will still be paid directly to NDCS.
What are the costs and important deadlines of this challenge?
Event registration fee: £299
Minimum sponsorship: £2,850
80% of sponsorship (£2,280) is due in 10 weeks before your trip departure
100% of sponsorship is due in 4 weeks after your arrival home
What is included in the costs
The tour cost includes flights to and from Nepal, accommodation, transfers, full medical support, experienced guides, support staff, bikes, water and all meals except lunch on day nine.
What is not included in the costs?
The tour cost does not include airport taxes and any fuel surcharges set by the airline because these fluctuate and are beyond the control of the tour operator. The tour operator will invoice you for this cost 10 weeks prior to departure. Currently this cost is about £290 but is subject to change. In addition you will need to budget for personal travel insurance, any optional tours, gratuities and spending money.
What equipment will I need?
You will need a cycle helmet. You will have the use of a bike in Nepal and a full packing list will be sent to you prior to the trip.
How fit do I need to be?
The event is aimed at people of average fitness who are prepared to put in plenty of training to enable them to meet the challenge. Classic Tours will provide a set of training guidelines to help you on your way.
What will the accommodation be like?
One night will be camping and the rest in hotels. Accommodation throughout is of a suitable standard for charity challenge events. Couples should note it is not always possible to share.
What will the food be like?
The food will be wholesome, tasty and plentiful. There will be snacks and water available whilst cycling.
What will the weather be like?
Temperatures will be in the region of 15–27 degrees Celsius. Evenings will be cool and there is a chance of rain.
Will I get any support with my fundraising?
Our team at NDCS will do everything they can to help you meet your fundraising target. You will be given a dedicated contact from our Events team to give you fundraising support and to provide you with a few tried and tested fundraising ideas. You will also receive sponsor forms and can request collection tins, an NDCS t-shirt and lots more to help your fundraising events go off with a bang!
Will I need any inoculations?
