An Open Challenge
This is an Open Challenge. These challenges are organised directly by our tour operator and there will be other people raising money for different charities on the event although we aim to recruit as many people as possible from NDCS. The tour operator will be looking after the administration of the event and NDCS will be supporting you with your fundraising. Your sponsorship money will still be paid directly to NDCS.
Costs and important deadlines of challenge
Event Registration fee: £299
Minimum sponsorship: £3000
(of which £1300 is tour costs)
80% sponsorship (£2120) due on: 10 weeks before departure (13 MARCH)
100% of sponsorship due in: 4 weeks before the event (24 APRIL)
Included
The tour cost includes all flight London – Lima return and any transfers, all accommodation, all meals whilst undertaking the activity, private bus transfers, local guides, porters and doctor.
Not included
The tour cost does not include insurance, 3 meals, airport departure tax and fuel surcharge (if applicable) or optional tours. It is also customary to tip the local guides and porters at the end of the trek.
Equipment
Your luggage should be carried in a soft sailing bag or rucksack so that it is easier for the porters to carry. You should bring a daypack (35-40 litres) for items needed during the day. Camping gear is provided but this does not include a sleeping bag.
Fitness
Anyone with a good general level of fitness can take part from 18 to 80+. You will receive a pre challenge fitness program when you register to help make sure you’re in top condition in time for your challenge.
Accommodation
Accommodation comprises of 3 nights camping and 5 nights in 3* hotels or equivalent.
Food & Drink
The food will be wholesome, tasty and plentiful. There will be snacks and water available whilst trekking.
Weather
Weather in Peru during the trek is going to be mainly dry but mountain weather is unpredictable at any time of year. In the past, people have under estimated how cold it can get at high altitude. Please be prepared for cold nights in Cusco and Aguas Calientes (where hotels have no heating) and on the trek itself. You will need thermals and woolly hats and gloves for the evenings and early starts. It will be warm during the day and showers are possible, so remember your waterproofs.
Fundraising
Our team at NDCS will do everything they can to help you meet your fundraising target. You will be given a dedicated contact from our events team to give you fundraising support and to provide you with a few tried and tested fundraising ideas. You will also receive sponsor forms, and can request collection tins, an NDCS t-shirt and lots more to help your fundraising events to go off with a bang!
