Itinerary

Day 1

Heathrow – Ulaan Bataar

Fly London Heathrow to Ulaan Baatar via Moscow.

Day 2

Ulaan Baatar

After transferring to the hotel, there will be an optional visit to the Winter Palace Bogd Khan.

Day 3

Gobi Desert – Bayanhongor

30km
Cycling begins at the northern edge of the Gobi Desert. We travel through a vast valley bottom populated by nomads and their livestock. Tonight we camp beside the river.

Day 4

Khangai Mountains

45km
Today we head further into the Khangai Mountains. After lunch prepare yourself for some steep climbs before making camp in a grassy valley bottom.

Day 5

Tuy river Valley

50km
The morning’s aim is to climb to a 2600m point with amazing views across the vast landscape of mountains and rolling valleys. Hold on for a bracing descent into a vast glaciated valley. A further climb allows us a superb descent into Tuy River valley where we camp for the night.

Day 6

Tuy Valley

55km
We continue up the Tuy Valley, carrying our bikes across the old river when necessary. A steep descent leads us to the difficult surface of a winding river valley. We make camp near a gushing stream for the night.

Day 7

Tamir River

60km
Today we cycle down the wonderful glaciated valley. The views are stunning and the region truly wild. Tonight we camp near the Tamir River.

Day 8

Tsetserleg – Khangai Mountains

60km
An early start as we tackle dirt tracks for the town of Tsetserleg. Tonight we camp in the rolling hills of the northern Khangai range.

Day 9

Khangai – Khotont

50km
Another early start for an unforgettable experience, cycling across the rolling hills, passing rural life that hasn’t changed for generations. We settle for the night at the small town of Khotont.

Day 10

Khotont – Karakorum

50km
Our final day of cycling, we cross vast open steppe where the horizon goes on forever. Our finishing point is the capital of Genghis Khan’s vast empire, Karakorum, where you can visit the magnificent Erdene Zuu Buddhist Temple before making camp on the outskirts of town beside the river.

Day 11

Back to Ulaan Baatar

An eight hour drive across the open steppe takes you back to Ulaan Baatar. This spectacular drive will make you realise the distance you’ve covered, how remote you’ve been and how vast the country truly is. We will have our
celebration meal in a traditional ger.

Day 12

Ulaan bataar

Free day to explore the capital.

Day 13

Arrive in UK

Morning flight to Moscow arriving in London in the evening.
