Itinerary

Day 1

London – Windhoek

Flight from London – Windhoek

Day 2

Windhoek – Twyfelfontein

We arrive in Windhoek, capital of Namibia and transfer by road to the Uibasen Twyfelfontein Conservancy. Tonight we will spend the night at the local campsite where an orientation briefing will be given and our bikes fitted. At all of our camps for next few days, and also along the roads there is the chance of seeing wild Desert Elephants for which the area is famous

Day 3

Twyfelfontein – Damaraland Camp

71 kilometers
This morning we will begin with an easy warm up ride down to the Bushman painting site where we will have the chance to explore before beginning the bike ride officially. Retracing our route back down the track. Today’s ride will take us though spectacular desert scenery, deep gorges and moon like rockscape to our campsite deep in Damara country.

The route is of undulating terrain on well made gravel roads.

Day 4

Damaraland Camp - Grootberg Pass Camp

71 Kilometers
Today’s ride is a similar challenge to yesterday’s, however we have a challenge in front of us - the dramatic Grootberg Pass, 10 kilometres of steady climbing to the plateau at its top. Although still in Damaraland the vegetation types change, with the flat-topped Etendeka Mountains forming the backdrop to an area covered in striking landscapes and rock-strewn valleys. Once on the top and having enjoyed the panoramic views we have a long downhill ride into our bush camp on the far site of the escarpment.

Day 5

Damaraland Camp – Kamanjab

80 Kilometres
We continue our ride northwards towards the town of Kamanjab, where we will camp for the night. The most unusual sight you will see in town are local Herero women dressed in their national costume. Overzealous German missionaries found the locals so scantily clad that, for the sake of propriety, they dressed them up from ankle to neck (with full under-petticoats) in Victorian garb. The ride will take us through a number of small remote settlements and past isolated granite kopjes

Day 6

Kamanjab – Etosha Bush Camp

85 Kilometres
As we start getting closer to Etosha the terrain begins to change into flatter more open scenery. The Etosha National Park is based around the Etosha Pan - one of the largest salt pans in the world that attracts wildlife from all over the region. Consequently the riding becomes easier but less varied but with an increased chance of seeing game animals, as the views become further reaching

Day 7

Etosha Bush Camp – Etosha National Park

90 Kilopmetres
Our final days cycling takes us onto the flat plains which lead to the main entrance of the national park. Generally flat we will rejoin the tarmac for the final section to the park gate, where our finish line will be.

Day 8

Etosha National Park – Mount Etjo Safari Lodge

Today will be a very early start in order to try and see as much game as possible - early morning and sunset are the best times to spot wildlife as they become less active in the heat of the day. There is a good chance of seeing giraffe, elephant, antelope and maybe even leopard and lion.

After completing our drive we will continue south towards Windhoek but we will break the journey along the way at a safari lodge, and bedded accommodation to give us all a chance to wash up before our celebratory meal and your last night under the African stars.

Day 9

Mount Etjo Safari Lodge (or similar)- Windhoek International Airport

4 hours
We have the morning free to relax before our midday transfer to Windhoek, 4 hours approximately, where time permitting we will stop at Okahandra to visit the stalls of local wood workers, before connecting with our return flight

Day 10
