An open challenge
This is an open challenge. These challenges are organised directly by our tour operator and there will be other people raising money for different charities on the event although we aim to recruit as many people as possible from NDCS. The tour operator will be looking after the administration of the event and NDCS will be supporting you with your fundraising. Your sponsorship money will still be paid directly to NDCS.
Costs and deadline dates
Event registration fee: £499
Minimum sponsorship: £3750
(of which £1696 is tour costs)
80% of sponsorship due: 10 weeks before your departure (24 JULY)
100% of sponsorship due: 1 month before your departure (4 SEPT)
What is included
The tour cost includes flights to/from Kilimanjaro, accommodation, transfers, full medical support, experienced guides, porters, support staff, water and all meals except lunch on day 9.
What is not included
The tour cost does not include airport taxes, personal travel insurance, visa, meals not included, optional tours, gratuities and spending money.
Equipment
You will need a 4 season sleeping bag and comfortable walking boots with ankle support. A full packing list will be sent to you.
Fitness
Kilimanjaro is one of our toughest challenges and training is essential. You will need to put
in plenty of training to enable you to meet the challenge. Classic Tours will provide a set
of training guidelines to help you on your way.
Accommodation
The first and last night are in a hotel and the nights on Kilimanjaro are in huts which sleep 8-12 people per room.
Food & Drink
The food will be wholesome, tasty and plentiful. There will be snacks and water available whilst trekking.
Weather
Temperatures vary considerably with height and time of day. On the plains the average temperatures is 30°C, the higher you get the cooler it will become. At the summit it can be minus 25-30°C.
Fundraising
Our team at NDCS will do everything they can to help you meet your fundraising target. You will be given a dedicated contact from our events team to give you fundraising support and to provide you with a few tried and tested fundraising ideas. You will also receive sponsor forms, and can request collection tins, an NDCS t-shirt and lots more to help your fundraising events to go off with a bang!
Who can take part?
Anyone over 18 who is fit and healthy enough to do the challenge. You will need to have your medical form signed by your Doctor and if you have a condition relating to your heart or lungs, or high/low blood pressure you may not be permitted to take part.
Health
Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Polio, Typhoid and Yellow Fever inoculations are suggested. Malaria prophylactics should be taken. Please consult your GP for professional medical advice.
Staying On
It is possible to stay on in Tanzania after the challenge, subject to availability. Full details will be sent out nearer the time.
Visa & Travel Insurance
A visa is required for British citizens. The cost is £38 (currently) and advice on how to apply for it will be given. If you are a non-British citizen please contact Classic Tours for advice. You must be insured to take part, Classic Tours can offer a policy, or you can use your own company. We will need your insurance details 8 weeks prior
to departure.
