Don't just take our word for it!
Where do I begin? The whole experience sticks with you, from being part of the stream of colour over the Narrows Bridge at the start to running the last couple of miles through Central Park. The day just sweeps you up. It’s a massive buzz.
You’re passing through areas of the city that you’d never usually see, and every neighbourhood has its own character. I’d thought that spectators in London were vocal, but New Yorkers take it way up to a different level. It makes you feel ten feet tall. My main advice would be to get your name on your T-shirt – every single ‘Way To Go Ben!’ got me nearer the line – enjoy the challenge and just drink it all in. I remember turning onto First Avenue with about six miles to go, seeing the crowds and just thinking: ‘This is something.’ Ben, New York Marathon 2005
