1 - basic

Requires a base level of fitness, but can be undertaken with a minimal amount of training and depending on age restrictions may be suitable for children.

2 - moderate

Requires a basic level of fitness and depending on age restrictions may be suitable for children.

3 - fairly challenging

Requires good fitness. They usually involve a varied terrain, with some harder or longer days. The weather may be changeable. Trekking and cycling may be fairly undemanding but at altitude.

4 - challenging

In addition to the above, Tough challenges feature demanding climbs and terrain in general, longer days and potentially challenging weather conditions. Altitude (if present) adds to the difficulty of the challenge.

5 - very challenging

In addition to the above, Extreme challenges may involve greater extremes of altitude and temperature, demand greater stamina as well as fitness, and require a determination and confidence which will only come with total commitment to what you are taking on.

The rating should only be used as a rough guide. A lot will depend on your level of fitness as to how easy/hard you find the challenge. It is essential to train adequately for all of our challenges as the better condition you are in physically, the more you will enjoy the challenge.

It is important to note that a variety of conditions beyond our control can change to make a challenge more demanding. I.e. - poor weather.
