Itinerary
The 1000kmph cycle challenge is a 20km or 40 km bike ride through the ancient woodland and picturesque villages of the New Forest. You will cycle individually but work as a team to clock a minimum of 6,000 kilometres in 6 hours! This is Jelf Group Plc's main charity event in 2008, and will involve up to 200 staff, and friends and families of the Group.
If you are new to cycling or haven't done much exercise for a while, then there is a 20km route, a fun day that will still feel like a challenge. If you like to push yourself, or are an experienced cyclist then the 40km route is the one for you. On both routes you will be cycling on road and off road through the heart of the New Forest, near Brockenhurst.
Please see the map attached which shows the long route mapped out in blue. Don't panic about the profile, the scale is only up to 100m.
As you can see the route forms a large loop. The smaller route is not marked but this will be restricted to the forest trails behind the hotel and will avoid main roads so it is safer for any children participating. Each route will have a water stop for refreshments and moral support!
You can bring your own bike or we can provide you with one. If you bring your own bike you must bring a helmet as well. The first part of the day is spent sorting out bikes for everyone. There will be bike technicians on hand to make sure your saddle is at the right height etc, and they will also be following you on route to mend any punctures!
There will be a start line and a finish line, with snack stops and water points along the route, with an informal BBQ celebration at the finish.
