My friend convinced me to take part in this challenge.
I am now 60 years old and felt more inclined to go this year and not leave this challenge until I may be less able.
Fundraising was more difficult the second time around but it was important to start early and have plenty of ideas.
The trip to China was amazing. The experiences and spectacular scenery were unforgettable! I think one of the most important aspects, after raising the money, is the group support. You meet a brilliant and inspiring group of people who carry you through all situations.
I would certainly recommend this to anyone.

I wanted to do something meaningful to mark my 40th birthday. Having visited a number of charities' websites, I found that the NDCS appealed to me the most. They seemed very professional, honest and down-to-earth.
I had never done anything like this before (in a sense that it was totally out of character for me), I don't walk anywhere and am wedded to my car!! As I am not really the intrepid kind, it was a real challenge for me. I thought China would be really interesting and I wanted to do something for a children's charity.
The fundraising really brought something else out of me - somehow it's easier to ask for something on behalf of someone else. Although essentially quite shy, I found that once I'd got the bit between my teeth, there was no stopping me! I bullied people into buying lots of raffle tickets and used my flamenco connections to organise a fundraising show, in which all the flamenco artists (dancers, guitarists and singers) donated their services for free. That raised a large proportion of my target. On the back of that, I also received an anonymous donation of £500! I had a couple of business contacts who also made donations, and I wrote to Harrods chief Mohammed Al-Fayed and got the pricely sum of £35 out of him!!!

Don't just think about it, do it! The whole experience was brilliant and life enhancing, not just for me and the people who supported me, but, most of all, for all the children and families that NDCS will be able to help with the funds raised.

A personal physical challenge, and opportunity to see the Great Wall of China - even now words aren't enough to describe the awesome beauty and amazing grandeur. The whole group experience/support is something I'm recommending to everyone who will listen!
