We had a great time raising money-sponsored horse trek and a large ceilich with charity auction, also a toddle waddle. The trek far exceeded our expectations and provided us with a once-in-a-lifetime experience -and challenge- we were looking for. So much interest has been generated locally, amongst family, friends and complete strangers.
Thank you for providing the opportunity and continued luck with the work of the NDCS!
Moira Pearson, Trek Inca trail Sept 2003
A friend of mine was training to walk the Great Wall of China for the NDCS. I offered to walk with her and we started doing different sections of the Cornwall Coast path. When she left I felt sad and said real challenge was to be done together!!
Fundraising for the Inca Trail was not always easy. Two of us in a small place where fundraising is a way of life. Pub quizzes were good, with raffles thrown in, we are now being called the "Tombola Queens", as we've done it so many times!
At last, the time to go, lists, lists and more lists, on what to take, etc, etc... Then off we go. Nobody can prepare you for altitude: it hits different people in different ways, young, old, fit, not so fit, smokers, non-smokers, you don't know how you personally will react. Then off, along the trek. The scenery was out of this world, the guides (especially Ernestino) were good and, in fact, excellent. The information was very interesting.
The ultimate though was the sun gate and looking down a Machu Picchu, never, never to be forgotten. Money raised, challenge achieved!
Doreen Holman, Trek Inca trail
The NDCS Trek the Inca Trail certainly changed my life! I celebrated my 50th bithday, met my partner at one of my fundraising event prior to the trip, flew for the first time and completed the Inca Trail, the hardest physical challenge I'll ever do! I had an unforgettable experience and now feel I can do anything!
Aprile Hill, Inca Trail
Having always wanter to go to Macchu Pichu, I jumped at the chance when my work colleagues advertised for others to join them. However, I weighed over 13 stone at the time and I smoked. I knew I had to get fit to be able to undert the trek.
I joined the gym, quit smoking and got fit! I lost over 3 stone and now run 4-5 times a week.
The trip was oustanding - the best thing I have ever done! The scenary and the people were great and I had a fantastic time.
It was a challenge but I loved every minute of it and to be able to raise money for a fantastic charity in the process topped it all. Fundraising in a group made it easier and fun!
Signing up the the Inca Trek changed my life!
